Task Force on Shelter

The Task Force on Shelter is established to develop standards for the provision of shelter and examine the need for, and feasibility and cost of, establishing state oversight of shelter. The Task Force is required to examine existing shelter policies and practices in shelters of all types, engage stakeholders, and make recommendations to the legislature regarding standards that will strengthen the shelter system and ensure that shelters have the ability and resources to provide safe and appropriate shelter services to those in need. The task force must submit an initial report to the legislature no later than February 1, 2022 and a final report no later than August 31, 2022.

The appointments process follows the Minnesota Open Appointments Act, which defines among other things how long pending applications can be considered for subsequent vacancies. Here’s the link to the Act: Sec. 15.0597 MN Statutes

The next meeting of the Task Force is scheduled for February 14, 2022, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. The agenda and meeting materials can be found here one week prior to the meeting. All meetings of the Task Force will be open to the public. Join the Zoom livestream meeting by clicking here no sooner than the meeting start time.

If you aren’t able to install the full Zoom application or are having trouble with it, you can join via browser. On the meeting page where it says “Launch meeting,” it will have text at the bottom to further guide access to the meeting. If you don’t see that text, click “Launch meeting” and then it should appear. If you’re still having issues getting into the meeting, please email kristina.krull@state.mn.us.

Note: The Task Force on Shelter may conduct this meeting by telephone or electronic means, if the conditions of Minn. Stat. 13D.015 or 13D.021 are met.  The Task Force on Shelter will, to the extent practical, allow a person to monitor the meeting electronically and may require the person making a connection to pay for documented marginal costs that an agency incurs as a result of the additional connection.

Please reach out to sue.hite-kirk@state.mn.us if you have questions.
